Created in Cameroon in 1957, Alucam today produces 100 000 tonnes of aluminium per year, of which two thirds are exported, and manufactures corrugated sheet and household utensils for markets in Africa. This book relates a story spanning 50 years of history, starting in colonial France and taking place in a country that became independent in 1960.
The eight Cameroonian and French specialists who have contributed to this book have attempted to analyse Alucam's impact on Cameroon's economy and society, its contribution to the industrialisation of Cameroon, the social and organisational models it introduced and the effects of globalisation.
